From Bulk Supply to Origin-Based Value: The Future of Indonesian Cocoa

3rd September, 9.00am

Swisscontact, in collaboration with Sugata and local government, has implemented the SLPI-LASR Landscape Project in Aceh Tenggara, one of Aceh’s main cocoa-producing areas, through an integrated approach combining farmer capacity building, agroforestry, participatory land-use planning, high-quality planting materials, and multi-stakeholder coordination. These efforts recently culminated in international recognition, with cocoa from Aceh Tenggara through Sugata receiving a Gold Award at the Cacao of Excellence Awards 2026.

Building on the experience and thriving momentum of Aceh Tenggara, this masterclass aims to explore how Indonesia can strengthen its cocoa competitiveness and improve farmer incomes by scaling integrated approaches that combine sustainable production, quality upgrading, and origin-based market development, particularly through artisanal and origin-based chocolate. The set up for this masterclass is a casual panel discussion.
